Artist Playing Cards
November 28–December 7, 2022

This was a series of cards developed during a college project. The goal was to create a series of cards with a cohesive theme using one full suit of cards, three more cards from the other suits, and a joker card.
I created mine based on artists from animation companies:
Cartoon Network, Disney, Warner Bros, and Nickelodeon.
Cartoon Network, Disney, Warner Bros, and Nickelodeon.
My personal goal was to study the intricacies and small details of the various artists and replicate their styles to demonstrate my abilities to take information and recreate it from scratch. This helped me learn more about what each artist prioritized when creating their eye catching styles!

I tried to choose artists who fit the card's importance the best. For the Cartoon Network suit, I was spoiled for choice. Each company has it's fan favorites, but "CN" was my home away from home.
The "Ace"
Pendleton Ward was the spearhead for the "cartoon renaissance," however, some people were not positively receiving on some of the humor found in "Adventure Time" hence his position as the ace card—both incredibly powerful or weak depending on the circumstances.
The "King"
Craig McCracken had two hits during his time at Cartoon Network. The original "PowerPuff Girls" and "Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends." Both shows were popular for their time and are fondly remembered to this day.
The "Queen"
Rebecca Sugar is another stand out who came center stage in the wake of Adventure Time's success. They created the beloved show "Steven Universe." While the show was well received by many viewers new and old, the show suffered from long hiatuses, locking them at "queen" status.
The "Jack"
Genndy Tartakovsky is the creator of the cult classics "Dexter's Laboratory" and "Samurai Jack." The pockets of dedicated fans elevated my personal favorite creator to the ironic level of "Jack."
Disney's "Ace"
Walt Disney is a creator who needs little introduction. He created a media empire, produced the first feature length animated film with "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" and created Mickey Mouse. However, due to personal controversies and conspiracies, his standing as the most important and least important card in the suit stands.
Warner Bros' "King"
Brad Bird is an important face to animation even before his work at Disney with "The Incredibles." He created "The Iron Giant." Despite being a box office failure, it is a marvel of the time, blending 2D and 3D animation with breathtaking results even by today's standards.
Nickelodeon's "Queen"
Arlene Klasky is one of the creators behind the shows "Rugrats" and "The Wild Thornberrys." Both shows had great success with movies, specials, and crossovers.
The "Joker"
Danny Antonucci earned the coveted Joker card due to the circumstances that led him to creating the comedy powerhouse: "Ed, Edd n Eddy." Antonucci was known for making mean spirited slapstick animations before going to work for Cartoon Network on a dare. That dare led to a successful show, several holiday specials, and a finale movie.
