Draven Character Sheet
November 27–December 4, 2024

Draven VIleblood
This character was created through happenstance when I decided to play Dark Souls III for the first time. I loved the world Hidetaka Miyazaki made. Every piece of armor, every character, every environment was given such detail and care that it instantly captivated me.
I grew attached to the character I named "Draven" and ruminated on the possibilities of his past. With his scarred and blinded eye, I decided his theme would be penitence—to show sorrow or regret for having done wrong.
I decided to draw Draven in the armor I completed the game with. The heavy stone gauntlets and pants or a king's ally turned prisoner, the chain adorned chest piece and cloth of a knight protecting a blind girl for reasons unknown, and wielding the weapon of a group of watchdogs who failed in their duty to stop a plague. All of these pieces plant their roots in "Penitence."
Expression sheet
Branching out from the game, I wanted to breath life into the 3D cluster of pixels I had grown so fond of. Replicating the armor and chains was a challenge mechanically, however, the expression sheet provided a stylistic challenge.
Taking a character who has only ever shown one expression and breathing life into it means dedicating oneself to measuring out proportions, angles, and the small intricacies of facial expression and how that specific character would express themself. I wanted to create a spectrum from his highest highs, to his lowest lows.
